●    Misalignment: When machines are out of alignment, it can lead to increased force on the shafts. This leads to advanced wearing on both bearings and seals.
●    Wear: Components naturally wear down over time. Vibration can increase this wear in some areas or speed up the process altogether. Especially if this wear is concentrated in certain areas, larger parts will need to be replaced more frequently. When bearings, drive belts, and other parts are worn, they can increase the vibration.
●    Looseness: Especially when you buy cheaper fasteners, vibration can cause general looseness. This quickly becomes destructive increasing the vibration. Any fasteners should be checked and tightened regularly.

Vibration analysis has become an increasingly common tool used to improve the process. Many plants and companies have two major tools: the high-end vibration analyzer and vibration pen. You should know how to use both. In a pinch, you can also use a screwdriver to get a basic idea. Recently, the industry has introduced a middle ground. Technicians have started using the vibration tester and vibration meter. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses just like any other tool.
